Chain Reaction

Programme

17-18 November 2008, London's Southbank

Programme

500 people, two days, one big tent…

We are developing an exciting programme for the first Chain Reaction that will enable participants to connect, collaborate and commit, and will result in at least 25 new networks, practical ideas for action or new ways of working. The programme will include:

  • Inspirational speakers, debates and conversations
  • Open space, materials and practical support to develop new ideas
  • Activities to make you think entirely planned and delivered by young people
  • A 'transformance' programme drawing on learning from creative arts from around the world
  • A dedicated social media space, connecting people virtually to the event from all around the world, drawing on their collective brain power to accelerate the development of new ideas for social action

Who should come?

Chain Reaction is for social leaders — people who, regardless of where they work or live or how old they are, see a social problem and do something about it. Their actions then inspire others, and the chain grows. See examples here. Chain Reaction will bring together world leaders with children, business leaders with micro social enterprises, those with power and those whose only power is their own actions. We want to gather 500 people from different places — government, business and the community — from around the world. We also want to include people of all ages. At least another 500 people will take part virtually.

About the Venue

The first Chain Reaction event will take place on London's South Bank. The nerve centre will be in the Room by the River, an award winning, tented, temporary venue hosted by Coin Street, and additional activities will take place in the celebrated arts facilities of the South Bank, engaging strollers and scaling up the reach and impact of the event.
