On the 17th and 18th November 2008, the Chain Reaction event brought together social leaders, community activists, policy makers, business leaders, and young people from around the globe to share learning and to generate new ideas for social change, locally, nationally and globally
There are many reasons to be positive about what happened - over 1000 people, from 16 countries, at least 200 aged under 21, community organisations from up and down the country and beyond (including Oxfam, Child Poverty Action Group and Family Housing Birmingham) and artists from Brazil, the Philippines, Croatia, Canada, Iceland and Kenya, Social Entreprenuers, bloggers and techies with new tools to try out, business leaders (among others, CEOs from Royal Mail, BBC, IBM, CBI, BITC, Accenture) and a roll call of Ministers - including a 45 minute visit from the PM, who made Chain Reaction his next stop after the Economic Summit in Washington.
All this, PLUS the launch of Global Entrepreneurship Week, and then concluding with a celebration of inspiring people and projects with the Beacon Fellowship Awards.

Attendees at the event who wanted to commit to doing something as a result of Chain Reaction were able to submit their own commitments at the event. We will shortly have the facility for you to post your own commitments on this site (our tech team are currently working on this now!), but in the meantime email us your commitment and we will get it featured on the site Take a look at some of the commitments here
The Chain Reaction event was supported by a team of social and young reporters, who filmed, blogged and tweeted their way through the event - connecting Chain Reaction to the outside world.
SENSE Media - a youth led media agency - filmed various elements of the Chain Reaction event, with their reporter Leanne Butterfield interviewing speakers such as Campbell Robb, Director General, Office of the Third Sector, John Bird, Editor in Chief at the Big Issue, and Rt Hon Hazel Blears MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government among others. Our Social Reporter Team consisted of experts in their field including; David Wilcox, Darragh Doyle, Peter Anderson, Amy Sample Ward, Steve Bridger, Claire White, and Farhan Rehman, who blogged ‘live’ (where our wi-fi system would allow!) from Chain Reaction 2008. You can read some of their reports over the next couple of page.
Matt Waring and Mark Rock of Best Before Media provided a fantastic video booth - called Video Boo - at the Chain Reaction event, which was used by attendees to record their thoughts, ideas and inspirations. You can see all of these videos on our YouTube channel. Here, the Team talk about how to use Video Boo
Best Before Media also provided their Millicent system to enable attendees at the event, and those participating online, to Twitter directly to screens around the venue.
